Xinxing Animal Remedy Research Institute has developed colimycin sulfate,
which broke the monopoly of Japanese product in China market. It is reported
that Tianjin Xinxing has been carrying out the research since 1999. At present
the price of colimycin from Tianjin Xinxing is around RMB30-35/kg, half
that of the Japanese product. |

Purity L-Lactic Acid Launched in Jiangxi (Last Update:

| The first
stage of high optical purity lactic acid project in Jiangxi Wu Zang Ye Biochemical
Co., Ltd. finished recently. The commercial production started. This company
is a joint venture between Jiangxi Province Academic Institute Biological
Technology Co., Ltd. and Wu Zang Ye Chemical Research Institute of Japan.

| Citric
Acid Marketing Keeps Declining (Last Update: 11/01/2001)

| The price
of citric acid drops to RMB6,000/MT in the early November 2001. There are
a few reasons for this situation: 1) Supply surpasses the demand. At present
the Chinese production of citric acid is about 500,000MT/year. In order
to obtain an order, the Chinese manufacturers decrease the selling price
each other . On the other hand the consumption from USA, Japan and European
countries decreased this year. 2) The price of raw material increased. The
price of corn was RMB0.8/kg last year but it is RMB1.18/kg in 2001. 3)India
and Pakistan have set up citric acid production line these years and it
impacts the already slack market. |

Pharmaceutical No.10 Factory has successfully done the research on neohesperidin
dihydrochalcone, which which is 1,500-1,800 times the sweetness of sugar.
The trial sample has been used and the result shows that it reaches the
FEMA standard. In 1997 neohesperidin dihydrochalcone was listed in the category
of food additive by central government. |

Focuses on Sodium Benzoate Market (Last update:

years the sodium benzoate market has been saturated. But the sodium benzoate
in Tianjin Dongda Chemical Co., Ltd. can not meet the demand. In April 2001
Dongda conducted technical innovation on sodium benzoate production line,
after when the production capacity of powder form and the granular form
is 15,000MT/year and 3,000MT/year, respectively. The production cost has
been decrease to a large extent. Now the sodium benzoate in Dongda is exporting
to USA, Europe and Southeast Asia. |

Production in 2001 is Expected to Be 7.75 Million MT/year

| In 2001
the plantation of sugar crops resumed and increased. The total plantation
area of sugar crop in 2001 is 1.343 million hectares including 984,400 hectares
of sugarcane and 346,400 hectares of sugarbeet. Among the total production
of sugar the production in Guangxi province accounts to 45%. The other sugar
production areas include Guangdong, Yunnan, Hainan, Xinjiang, Heilongjiang.
