Research Projects Activated in Shalongda (Last update: 09/14/2001) |
| The research project
on Benmiwei in Hubei Shalongda Agrochemical Co. Ltd. has been approved by
State Economic & Trade Committee. This projects has been listed in State
Important Projects in 2001. Benmiwei is a kind of pesticide which contains
both carbamate structure and diphenyl ether structure. So far Norvatis is

| Bulk Pharmaceutical
Export Increased in the First Quarter 2001 (Last update: 08/14/2001)

| In the first quarter
2001, the total export quantity of bulk pharmaceutical is USD300 million,
increased 7% over the same period last year. Comparing with last year, the
export amount of following products increased: vitamin E, lincomycin, chloromycin,
streptomycin, gentamycin, vitamin B1, vitamin B12, vitamin B2, D-cal pan,
vitamin B6, rifampicin, kanamycin, salicylatic acid, acetyl spiromycin,
ibuprofen. The export of ephedrine, inositol, cefazolin, and sorbitol almost
doubled. But the export of following products decreased: vitamin C, citric
acid, paracetamol, heparin sodium, analgin, caffeine, aspirin, ciprofloxacin,

| Economic Situation
of Pharmaceutical Industry in the First Half 2001 (Last update: 08/09/2001)

| In the first half 2001,
the total output value of pharmaceutical industry is RMB131.9 billion, increasing
15.9% over the same period in 2000. Among the total value, bulk pharmaceutical
accounts to 65%, TCM accounts to 21.5%, biopharmaceutical 6%, medical machinery
6%. Total sales value of pharmaceutical industry is RMB72.3 billion. The
total export value of pharmaceutical is USD2.08 billion while the total

| A Gene Science
& Technology Base to Be Built in Shanghai Yangpu (Last update: 07/24/2001)

| The construction of
a gene science & technology base is under going in Shanghai Yangpu district.
This base is invested by Shanghai United Gene Science & Technology Group.
It is a private company. It is reported that this group will invest RMB3
billion in the next 5 years into this base. And they have signed a contract
with local government to buy about 30 hectares of land. The first phase
of this project will be finished by end of this year. So far there are 20
enterprises who show interest to work in the base, including China Gene

| Medicine Market

| According to the statistics,
the consumption structure of medicine in China is: domestic medicine 57%,
medicine from joint venture 29% while imported medicine 13%. From function
point of view, among the total medicine consumed, antibiotics accounts 35.7%,
digestive system medicine 11.43%, analgesic medicine 8.17%, circulatory

| Pyquitone Market
Keeps Growing (Last update: 07/11/2001) |
| At present there are
four registered pyquiton manufacturers in China. The annual production is
around 45MT and one third of them are exported. Comparing with the situation
in 1998, the production of pyquiton in 2000 increase 37% while the export
increase 68%. The main reason is that the production of pyquiton leads to
air pollution and some developed countries forbid to produce it. (Source:
