Using Sand Binding Plant to Make Nutrient Food is Forbidden (Last update: 07/12/2001)
Ministry of Public Health issued a notice recently, forbidding using sand binding plants to make nutrient products. The relevant plants include licorice, ephedra, desert cistanche, snow lotus. According to the regulation, it is not allowed to make nutrient food with the wild herbs as mentioned above. For the nutrient food made from the artificial herbs, the manufacturers should provide the certificate for the sources of raw materials, sales contract and the raw material purchase license. Import & Export of TCM in the First Half 2001 (Last update: 09/21/2001)
In the first half 2001, the total value of import & export of traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is USD329 million, including USD 259 million of export value and USD 70 million of export value. Among the total export of TCM, herb accounts USD168 million; herb extract accounts USD46 million while formulated TCM accounts USD45 million. National Grade Medlar Quality Test Center Established (Last update: 08/20/2001)
Ningxia province has invested RMB70,000 to establish National Grade Medlar Product Quality Test Center in Ningxi Agriculture & Forest Science Research Collage.Medlar is a tradition Chinese medicine in China. It is also a food supplement. But there is no authorized unit in China to evaluate the quality of medlar by scientific method. For a long time medlar can only be used as food or nutrient food rather than medicine in the oversea countries. The function of the center is to evaluate the medlar quality, agrochemical residue, and comprehensive utility. Lily is a characteristic plant in Lanzhou city. The Lanzhou government encourage the peasants to plant lily. So far there are 240,000 hectares of plantation in this area and the total production is 16,180MT. Apart from supplying Hong Kong and Macao, Lanzhou also sells lily to USA, Japan and Singapore. Senior Seminar on TCM and Herb Medicine Will Be Held in Hangzhou (Last update: 07/27/2001)
State Drug Administration Bureau will hold a meeting in Hangzhou on tradition Chinese medicine and herb medicine on 8th-20th, October 2001. There will be 500 officers, experts and entrepreneur to attend the meeting. This meeting will discuss the issue of the legislation, registration management, standard management of TCM and herb medicines, as well as the executation of GLP, GCP in this area. Production of Dgeratum Decreased This Year (Last update: 07/26/2001)
The collection quantity of ageratum this year is 4,500MT, including 532Mt of ageratum leaf. The production decreased about 50-71% over the last year. But the price increased 50-60% over the last year. At present the price of ageratum is RMB12/kg. (Source: TCM Business News)
