Licenses To Be Suspended (Last update: 06/22/2001) |
| Considering the side
affect of PPA (phenylpropanolamine), SDA decides to suspend all the licenses
for PPA production. No production and sales of PPA is allowed in China.
SDA disclosed that it will strengthen the supervision on the untoward reaction

| Management Regulation
on Caffeine to be Effective in May (Last update: 04/05/2001) |
| The newly revised Management
Regulation on Caffeine has been authorized and will be executed from May
2001. SDA had revised the regulation twice in 1991 and 1997, respectively.
According to the new regulation, SDA will supervises the production, sales,
application and import & export of caffeine. The production of raw material
must be carried out by the authorized factories. The sales of caffeine must
be carried out by appointed distributors while the export of caffeine requires

| Guangzhou To Initiate
Biological Island Project (Last update: 06/26/2001) |
| The Guangzhou International
Biological Island Project will be initiated in the near future. The construction
of biological island will be conducted in three phases. The investment in
the first phase is RMB920 million. It is expected to finish the construction
of base facilities for research & development within 3 years. In the future
the focus in the island project lays in the TCM modernization and gene research.

Chemical Co. Ltd., the joint venture between Rohm & Hass and Jiangsu Baoling
Chemical Co. Ltd., began the production of bactericide and its derivates
in due form. This joint venture was built in 1998. The total investment

| Cyclodextrin
Derivatives in Shandong (Last update: April 2001) |
| Shandong Hengtai Xinda
Fine Chemical Co. Ltd. has successfully developed cyclodextrin derivatives
including hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin, hydroxyethyl cyclodextrin and methyl
cyclodextrin. The research result has been approved by local government.
The pilot production started recently. Cyclodextrin derivatives is widely
