China Pharmaceutical Engineering Research Institute was founded in Beijing United University Chemical College. There are two departments in the institute: one is Department of Separation & Production Technology of TMC and Natural Medicines; Another is Department of Engineering Design for Pharmaceutical Machinery & Pharmaceutical Engineering. In the future the research institute will focus on TCM and natural herb medicines, as well as the application of traditional chemical engineering technology into the TCM production. Dr. Jiang Haokui, a famous bioengineering scientist in China, has extracted daidzein from soybean after thousands times of experiment. The purity of daidzein reaches to 95%. Dr. Jiang uses consecutive extraction method to extract daidzein via soybean protein, oligosaccharide. Jiangsu: TCM Export Decreased, Herb Export Increased (Last update: 04/24/2001)
According to the statistics from customs, the total export quantity of tradition Chinese medicines (TCM) in the first quarter 2001 in Jiangsu Province, one of the largest TCM production bases in China, was only 224MT, decreased 39.1% over the same period last year. While the total export quantity of herbs in the same period was 5,037MT, increased 5.1% over the same period last year. The main reasons are that the Chinese manufacturers pay less attention to the certification and promotion of TCM in the oversea market while USA and European countries begin to pay attention to Chinese herbs in the recent years.
