| Fuel Alcohol
Project in Guangdong (Last update: 06/08/2001) |
| The project to
produce fuel alcohol from cassava and cane was signed in Guangzhou
recently. This project is to carry out by CAS Guangzhou Energy Source
Research Institute, Guangdong Hualing Group Co., Ltd. The investment
for the first phase is RMB686 million, with capacity of 500,000MT/year

| 900,000MT/year
Ethylene Project Is To Activate (Last update: 05/25/2001) |
| The feasibility
study report on 900,000MT/year ethylene project in Shanghai has been
finished and submitted for approval. Total investment for this project
is USD2,7 billion. This project is invested by China Petrochemical
Corporation, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Co. Ltd. and BP Company,
who holds 30% share, 20% share and 50% share, respectively. Apart
from ethylene, this project also include polyolefin, PS, PAN and other
olefin derivatives. The total capacity of these derivatives is 1 million
MT/year. It is expected that this project will be finished in June

| Tert-Carbonic
Acid Technology Broke Through in China (Last update:05/10/2001) |
| The project of
8,000MT/year tert-carbonic acid and the project of 300MT/year tert-carbonate
glyceride in Tianjin Siyou Chemicals Co. Ltd. have passed appraisal
recently. This company uses new type of catalyst to carry out the
reaction under normal temperature. This technology is maturated. It
is reported that it reaches the oversea production level. The derivatives
of tert-carbonic acid have been widely used coating industry, pharmaceutical
industry and flavors industry. In the past China has to import tert-carbonate

| A Coal-to-Oil
Project Activated (Last update: 05/07/2001) |
| CAS signed contract
with Shanxi Province to develop a project to make oil from coal. The
design capacity is 1 million MT/year of oil. This project locates
in Shanxi Suozhou, a coal production base with capacity of 50 million
MT/year. The research work will be carried out by CAS Shanxi Coal
Chemistry Research Institute. According to the contract, this project
will develop in three steps: First to finish the preparation for the
1,000MT/year pilot production line in year 2001 and start the commercial
production of it in 2003; Then to finish the construction of 1 million
MT/year production line in 2006; At last to start commercial production

| Yizheng
Plans to Build 450,000MT/year PTA Production Line (Last update:
May 2001) |
| State Developing
& Planning Committee has approved Yizheng Chemical Fiber Company to
build a 450,000MT/year production. The total investment for this project
is RMB2 billion. It is expected that this project will be finished
in year 2002, when the total production capacity of PTA in Yizheng

| Shanxi Modern
Coal Industry Co. Ltd. was set up recently. The largest methanol project
from coal rout will be built in this company. The designed capacity
of methanol (from coal) is 600,000MT/year and the total investment
for this project is RMB1.7 billion. The first stage of this project
is 200,000MT/year. This company is based on Shanxi Tianji Chemical
Group, Lubao Carbonization Group and Shoudu Steel Company. Other investors
include Guangcai Group, Sanyuan Coal Industry, Yunan Yuntianhua, etc.

| Fuel Alcohol
Project in Jilin (Last update: 04/21/2001) |
| A trial project,
to make fuel alcohol by using corn, in Heilongjiang Zhaodong Huarun
Jinyu Industrial Co. Ltd. has been proved to be successful. It is
expected that the 100,000MT/year fuel alcohol project in this factory
will be finished in July 2001, after when the alcohol petroleum will
be popularized in Heilongjiang Province. So far China has appointed
three production sites of alcohol petroleum, Henan Tianguan Group
Co., Heilongjiang Huarun Jinyu Industrial Co. Ltd. and a project in
Jilin. It is reported that China will list the popularization of fuel

Methanol Project in Shaangxi Activated (Last update: 04/17/2001) |
| The 100,000MT/year
methanol project in Shaangxi Yulin Natural Gas Chemical Co. Ltd. has
been approved and the public bidding for the construction of this
project already started. At present the production capacity of methanol
in Shaangxi Yulin Natural Gas Chemical Co.Ltd. is 120,000MT/year.
After the finish of 100,000MT/year project the total production capacity
of methanol in Shaangxi Yulin will reach to 220,000MT/year, the largest

| Dimethyl
