| Dairy Product
Industry Will Face Difficulties after WTO (Last
update: 03/09/2001) |
| By 1999, there
are 1,000 dairy product manufacturers in China. But most of them are
small in production capacity. Less than 5% of them have the capacity
of 100MT/day. 40% of them have the capacity between 50MT/day and 100MT/day.
In 1999, China import 146,000MT dairy product from overseas, accounting
to 21.2% of the total domestic production. Among the top 10 manufacturers
of the world, 4 of them have set up factories in China. At present,
the problems of Chinese dairy product industry are: 1) The administration
system from central government is overlapping and disordered. E.g.,
the milk product is under the administration of Ministry of Agriculture;
The processing of dairy product under the Ministry of Light Industry
while domestic distribution, Ministry of Commerce and dairy trade,
Economic & Trade Committee. 2) The competition among domestic manufacturers
is vivcous and fake products is flooding in the market. (Source: International
