Largest Flavor & Fragrance JV in China (Last update: Dec 2000)
Recently the largest joint venture of flavor & fragrance enterprise in China, Shanghai Givauden Sensitivity Development & Research Institute, has been set up. This is the JV between Shanghai Sunve Co. Ltd. and Givauden of Switzerland. The total investment is USD14.50 million. The total production capacity of F & F is 5,000MT/year. Guangxi Government Supports F & F Industry (last update: 11/27/2000)
Recently Guangxi Government lists the development of flavor & fragrance as an important industry in the industrial restructure plan. So far there are over 50 factories in Guangxi to engage in the production of flavor and fragrance. The main F & F items in Guangxi are cassia oil, anise oil, citrol oil, osmanthus oil and jasmine oil. It is reported that the Guangxi government will enlarge the plantation area of flavor species and build modern F & F industrial enterprises in the near future. LG Enlarges ABS Capacity in Ningbo(Last update: 11/13/2000)
Ningbo LG Yongxing Chemical Co. Ltd., a joint venture with LG of South Korea, enlarges the production of ABS resin from 60,000MT/year to 150,000MT/year. LG plans to further enlarge the ABS capacity to 300,000MT/year in the year 2002, when the total production capacity of ABS in LG will be 700,000MT/year, the 3rd largest ABS supplier in the world. At present the demand for ABS in China is 1.65 million MT/year but the actual supply is only 330,000MT/year. (Source: China Chemical News)
 
The Largest Production Base of Titanium Dioxide in China (Last update: Nov. 2000)
Recently, Ji'nan Yuxing Chemical General Factory finishes the technology improvement on the imported facilities which are used to produce 15,000MT/year of rutile titanium dioxide. So far the total production capacity of titanium dioxide in Ji'nan Yuxing Chemical General Factory is 25,000MT/Year, the largest one in China. It is estimated that the total demand for rutile titanium dioxide in China is 230,000MT/Year but the actual supplying capacity of this product in China is only 100,000MT/year. Nanometer Mateiral into PP (Last update: 10/21/2000)
The researchers in Yangzi Petrochemical Research Institute have successfully added nanometer material into PP to obtain new material with property of both good rigidity and good tenacity. The researchers commented that this composite can be used to make packing material. 200,000MT/year Polyester Project Activated (Last update: 10/11/2000)
The commercial production of 200,000MT/year polyester project in Tianjin Petrochemical Company began in end September. This is second phase for polyester project which include 600,000 MT/Year continuous reinforcing equipment,250,000MT/Year paraxylene equipment ,250,000MT/Year fine paradibenzoic acid,200,000MT/year polyester, 100,000MT/year short terylene and 90,000MT/year long terylene. The PSA-CO technology in Southwest Chemical Research & Design Institute has been applied in over 10 sets of gas purification falicilities in China. Sino-German JV in Beijing Set up (Last update: 09/20/2000)
In September, Beijing Angel Special Chemical Technology Co. Ltd.,a joint venture between Stock Hawson (AG) and China Tianlong Special Chemical Technology Co. Ltd., was set up in Tongzhou Industry Development Zone, Beijing. The total investment of the JV is EUR2.6 million. The JV is aiming at producing water disposal chemicals and paper making chemicals. The designed capacity is 10,000MT/year. The JV will produce famous products from German partner, brandinging as Tallofin, Praestol and Praestaret. China Cultured GMO Cotton (Last update: Sept 2000)
Nanjing Red Sun Group and Nanjing Agricultural University jointly find a news type of GMO cotton with anti-insect heritage. This project is under the "863 Plan". China began to do research on the GMO cotton since 1980s. It is reported that the yield of coarse cotton by this technology is 100kg/Mu (about 1,500kg/hectare). Honeywell Will Invest to Produce Wax in Suzhou (Last update: July 2000)
Honeywell decides to begin the construction of its 19th investment projects in China, Special Wax Production Base in Suzhou. It is scheduled to finish in the end of 2000. According to information from the work symposium of state chemical industry the tenth five-year planning, state department concerned are going to announce the first batch of "Prohibited Investment Catalogue in Chemical Industry Sector" in the near future. Contents(such as quality, scale, process) relating to the 24 prohibited investment products in the catalogue were as follows:

- nitric acid(by ambient pressure process and by comprehensive method),

- acoustic soda(by process of mercury method and graphite anode diaphragm method),

- calcium carbide(scale below 45,000 ton/year, unsealed furnace),

- tetrachloromethane(production device),

- benzidine(production device),

- aniline(intermediates such as aniline by iron powder reduction process and o-phenylendiamine),

- pesticides of old assortments(folimat, methamidophos, hexachlorocyclohexane, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane DDT, azodrin, isocarbophos, methyl parathion, parathion, -----, thimet, dicofol, sulfotepp, methybrom, lindane, chlordane, dibromochloropropane, chlordimform, tetramine, fluoroacetamide, fratol, heptachlor, polychlorinated biphenyl, pentachlorophenol, pentachlor, phenol sodium, nitrofen, paraquat by high-temp and mid-temp,

Department of Planning and Development of State Petrochemistry Bureau explains that items in the catalogue contain products of production capacity glut, backward processes, technologies and products for which new counterparts were substituted. This catalogue has been submitted to State Economy and Trade Commission, and has been approached State Council. It shall be announced and put into force soon.

 
China Newly Approved 11 Economic Zone(Last update: Sept 2000)
China has approve 11 economic zones in 2000. All of these zones are located in western areas, including Hefei, Xi'an, Zhenzhou, Chengdu, Changsha, Kunming, Guiyang, Nanchang, Shihezi, Huhehaote, Xining,etc. So far there are total 18 economic zones in western areas and 43 economic zones around China. China provides a series of favorite policies to investors in economic zones,including policy of income tax. 2,000 Institutes will Change the Ownership within Year 2000 (Last update: Sept 2000)
After the ownership reform of 242 research institutes under the ministration of State Economy & Trading Committee, China decides to change the ownership of about 2,000 research institutes around the country, from government-supporting to self-surviving. These institutes were expert on applied technology. After the reform these institutes will become industrial entities. It is expected that the reform is to be finished by end of year 2000.
