Detected GMO Component From Import Rapeseed (Last update: Sept 2000) |
| Shanghai CCIB detected
GMO component in the import rapeseed from Canada. This is the first time
in China to detect GMO in rapeseed. It indicates that the oversea exporters
should label on their products the GMO content if they contain. Every year
China import at lease 1 million Mt of rapeseed from overseas. (Source: China

| The
Wholly Owned Company of Bayer in Pudong Begins Construction (Last update:
August 2000) |
| The construction of
the wholly owned company of Bayer in Shanghai Pudong begins. The factory
will produce flavor and fragrance in China and sell the product to China
and Pan Pacific Area. The total investment for this new factory is USD15
millions. It is expected that the construction will be finished by 2002.

production line of ASA was constructed in 1999 and the commercial production
began in mid 2000 in Fushun Petrochemical Company No.5 Factory. ASA is used
as sizing agent in papermaking. It is also used in leather industry, fabric

| Shanghai Gaoqiao BASF
announced in July 2000 that the newly set up 60,000Mt/year carboxyl butadiene
styrene latex production line has been initiated. Now the total capacity
of butadiene styrene latex in Shanghai Gaoqiao BASF has become to 110,000Mt/year.
