Executive Summary

(Note: The following summary is based on the situation in 2007 and maybe different to what it is nowadays. Please be noted.)

- Technology

At present, there are two methods to produce fumaric acid. One is chemical combination method and the other is biological combination method. Chinese fumaric acid producers all use the former one. There are three raw materials for fumaric acid production in China and they are benzene, acid liquor generated in the production of maleic anhydride and acid liquor generated in the production of phthalic anhydride. ...

- Production

China is one of the largest producers of fumaric acid all over the world. Currently there are 29 active producers of fumaric acid in China with the total capacity of xxx kts/a in 2007 amounting to over one third of the global capacity.

Fumaric acid industry has been developing rapidly in China in the past few years with the average annual growth rate of xxx % in 2002-2006, and the output reached xxx kts in 2006. Currently the supply of fumaric acid is tense, and many producers have no stock. Their orders have been arranged to the second ten days of October. The demand will keep exceeding the supply.

Jiangsu Changmao is the largest manufacturer of fumaric acid in China, whose production capacity reaches xxx t/a in 2007. ...

- Import & export

Import volume of fumaric acid in China was small and kept decreasing in the past several years. The price didn't fluctuate wildly, but maintaining at the level of over USD1.02/kg since 2005.... ...

In the past few years the export volume of fumaric acid kept increasing fast with the average annual growth rate of about xxx % in 2003-2006. The ... export volume has reached xxx tonnes in the first half of 2007. But almost no fumaric acid of industrial grade is exported.

- Consumption

In recent years, the apparent consumption of fumaric acid has kept increasing in China. ... and the annual growth rate reached xxx %.

Fumaric acid is mainly consumed to produce L-aspartic acid and UPR in China. L-aspartic acid was the largest consumption field with the volume of xxx tonnes, amounting to xxx% of the total consumption volume in 2006. UPR is the second largest field ...

- Forecast

In the next 5 years, the output of fumaric acid will keep a rising trend, and the growth rate will be about xxx %. The consumption of fumaric acid in China will also continually increase in the next 5 years...and the apparent consumption is predicted to be xxx tonnes by 2011.
