Part of Report:
(Note: The following summary is based on the situation in 2006 and maybe different to what it is nowadays. Please be noted.)
China is one of the largest producers of fumaric acid all over the world, and its capacity amounts to 30% of the world. The annual output of fumaric acid in China in 2005 reached xxxxt, and its capacity has exceeded xxxxt since 2005.
By July 2006, there are xx active fumaric acid manufacturers in China. Among them, only XXX and XXX produced both fumaric acid and L-aspartic acid. The production capacity of fumaric acid in XXX and XXX reaches xxxxt/a in 2006, and most of their fumaric acid has been used by themselves to produce L-aspartic acid.
In China, there are two grades of fumaric acid. One is industrial grade fumaric acid. The other is food grade one. Currently, the domestic production capacity of food grade fumaric acid is xxxxt/a, nearly three times as much as that of industrial grade fumaric acid. In 2005, the actual output of fumaric acid was xxxxt; including xxxxt food grade fumaric acid and xxxxt industrial grade fumaric acid.
Import of fumaric acid in China was small and stable in the past several years. And the price didn’t fluctuate wildly. In 2005, China imported xxxxt fumaric acids, all belonging to food acid. Its average price was USD1.02/kg. China mainly imported fumaric acid from Japan and Taiwan. On the one hand, the output of fumaric acid in two regions is large, on the other hand, they are near to China, and the water transport is very convenient.
In recent years, export of fumaric acid keeps rising. China exported xxxxt fumaric acid in 2003 and xxxxt in 2005. The main reason for the rising is that the capacity of fumaric acid in China was enlarged largely, and the domestic demand is limited, many manufacturers tried efforts to develop overseas market. Chinese fumaric acid was mainly exported to Japan, Belgium, United States and Netherlands. The export volume was xxxxt in 2005, amounting to xxx% of total export.
…………..
In recent years, the apparent consumption of fumaric acid continually increased in China. In 2003, the apparent consumption was only xxxxt; it increased to xxxxt in 2005, and the annual increase rate reached xxx%. Fumaric acid is mainly used to produce L-aspartic acid and unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) in China. L-aspartic acid was the largest consumption aspect with the volume of xxxxt, amounting to xxx% of the total consumption volume in 2005. In the second place, fumaric acid was used as a material of UPR, the consumption volume reached xxxxt, amounting to xxx%.
