Executive Summary

(Note: The following summary is based on the situation in 2001 and maybe different to what it is nowadays. Please be noted.)

There are about 80 kinds of feed additives allowed to be used in feed production in China.

The number of feed additives manufacturers increased from xx in 1997 to xx in 2000.

Quite a few sources of many important feed additives such as amino acids are mainly imported from overseas.

In 1999 the actual production from Chinese manufacturers is xxxxKT but the import lysine is near xxxxKT. The import lysine is from the following companies:

- Cheil of Indonesia ( xxxx% in 1999)

- Sewon & Miwon of South Korea (xxxx% in 1999)

- ADM of USA n AJI of Thailand

- Kyowa Hokko Vietnam

It is estimated that the demand for feed grade lysine in China is at least xxxxKT per year.

The demand for feed grade methionine is estimated to be around xxxx to xxxx tonnes per year in China and the supply is dominated by imported materials. The popular brands of imported methionine are from Degussa, Sumitomo and Rhone Poulenc.

The application of threonine, trytophan and arginine is quite limited due to the high price.

At present the production of vitamin in China can already meet the demand for feed industry in China.
