Executive Summary

(Note: The following summary is based on the situation in 2006 and maybe different to what it is nowadays. Please be noted).

- Production & producers

Chinese carbon black output in 2004 and 2005 was xxxxMTs and xxxxMTs, respectively. It indicates that Chinese carbon black production was reduced in 2005, due to tensional raw material supply.

Currently, the biggest problem of Chinese carbon black production, which is also the biggest character of Chinese carbon black industry, is…... All the three main raw materials are facing …. in Chinese carbon black industry. The price of coal tar in 2005 has doubled that in 2004. This made numbers of Chinese carbon black producers shut down their production.

- Technology

Currently, 15 kMTs/year wet method carbon black process has been mature in China, so do corresponding equipments. China Rubber Group Carbon Black R&D Institute (CCBI) and Tianjin Dolphin Carbon Black Co., Ltd. (the former Tianjin Carbon Black Factory) contributed most to Chinese carbon black technology developments.

- Import & Export

In 2004, the import volume of carbon black in China was xxxx MTs while the export volume was xxxx MTs.

- Consumption

Carbon black is consumed in rubber industry, plastic industry, coating industry, inks industry, battery industry and some other special areas. Total carbon black consumption in China was about xxxxkMTs in 2004 and xxxxkMTs in 2005, respectively. More than xxx% carbon black is used in rubber industry in recent years.

- Price

Chinese prices of carbon black have been in big differences at one same time in recent years, although large producers such as Tianjin Dolphin have been stable comparatively;

- Forecast

By anticipation, Chinese carbon black industry will achieve following in 2015:
Both the output and consumption will be about xx million MTs/year;
The number of manufacturers will be only about xx;
The import and export will be about xxxx kMTs/year and xxxx kMTs/year.
