Description:
Caprolactam mainly depends on import in China, but in the future this situation will be changed for the enlargement of domestic capacity and the improvement of production technology. The report looks at the situation of caprolactam of China in the past, at present and in the future. Production, import & export, consumption and technology are introduced in detail. All the active producers of caprolactam are compiled.

(Note: The following summary is based on the situation in 2006 and maybe different to what it is nowadays. Please be noted.)
At present, there are xx active caprolactam producers including …….. The current capacity of caprolactam in China is xxxx tonnes per year and the output in 2005 was xxxx tonnes which was slightly less than that in 2004.
At present, the profit level of caprolactam industry is very low because the price of raw material rises and imported product with lower price causes price pressure on homemade product.
The import volume of caprolactam in the past decades was much more than the domestic output. On the basis of CCM’s analysis on custom data, xxxx tonnes of caprolactam was imported in 2005, and the United States was the biggest country of exportation.
…….
In China, caprolactam is mainly used to produce Nylon 6 fibre which is further made into shade cloth, cordage, clothes, and other textiles. The above end use sectors consume about xx% of total output of caprolactam, and the rest is used to produce PA6 engineering plastic.
Domestic capacity of caprolactam is far away to meet the demand, and large quantities of caprolactam must be imported from oversea market every year. In recent years, the ratio of import dependence was near xx%.
Table I Demand and supply of caprolactam in China in recent three years
…
Based on the technologies introduced from abroad, China has developed its own technology. One set of equipment in Sinopec Baling, with the capacity of xxxxt/a, is adopting the domestic technology with independent intellectual property rights. The development of new crafts will replace crafts from abroad step by step, and it will accelerate the development of domestic CPL industry.
In the future, the demand and supply of caprolactam in China will increase rapidly along with the development of downstream industries and the capacity-enlarging in major producers. However, the Ratio of Import Dependence of Chinese caprolactam industry will be comparatively high in the coming five years, till 2010, it will be still higher than 40% although the domestic capacity increases rapidly in the coming years. The following figure showed CCM’s estimation on the future situation of caprolactam industry in China.
