First developed by Dow Chemical Company in 1965, chlorpyrifos has become the largest organophosphorus insecticide worldwide in both volume and value till now.

Chlorpyrifos is the largest organophosphorus insecticide worldwide in both volume and value. The world's demand for chlorpyrifos technical has hit over XXX tonnes in 2010, seeing an average CAGR of XXX% in the past five years.
Only several countries supply chlorpyrifos technical in the world by 2010, though this insecticide has been registered to use in more than 100 countries worldwide. China, India and the US are the major players of chlorpyrifos technical's supply. The total supply volume of the three countries' chlorpyrifos technical accounts for over 90% of the world's supply volume in 2010. In this report, CCM International has revealed the trade and price trend of chlorpyrifos in China, India, the US, Argentina and Colombia. Some key findings are as follow:
- China is one of the largest chlorpyrifos export countries in the world in 2010, whose major export destinations include South Asia, Middle East, Southeast Asia as well as Central and South America. Its export value showed an uptrend with the CAGR of over XXX% in 2007–2010. In 2010 (Jan.-Oct.), China exports XXX tonnes of chlorpyrifos technical and XXX tonnes of chlorpyrifos formulations respectively.
- India is also one of the largest Chlorpyrifos export countries in the world, whose main export destinations are Argentina, the US, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Egypt, etc. The major type of Indian chlorpyrifos exported is technical, accounting for over XXX% of India's total chlorpyrifos export value in 2010 (Jan.-Nov.). India imports chlorpyrifos technical mainly from China, with an import volume of about XXX tonnes in 2010, most of which is re-exported to other countries.
- The US mainly exports chlorpyrifos to South American countries, such as Argentina, Brazil and Colombia, which shows a continuous drop in the recent years. Meanwhile, the US majorly imports chlorpyrifos technical from China and India, which account for over XXX% of US' total import volume in 2010.
- Argentina and Colombia play an important role in South America chlorpyrifos trading, by importing chlorpyrifos technical and formulation from the US, China and India, and re-exporting chlorpyrifos formulation to other South American countries.
- Prices of both chlorpyrifos technical and formulations have shown remarkable downtrend in 2008–2010 in most countries, impacted by several factors, such as oversupply, production cost decrease and global financial crisis. It is predicted that the price of chlorpyrifos technical will see rebound in 2011-2012 and turn back to decrease in 2013–2015.
