In China, ethylenediamines has been widely used in the production of resin, pesticide, pharmaceuticals, etc. At present, China's ethylenediamines products are still in short supply and the demand increases year by year.

Even if it has started production at the end of 1980's, China's ethylenediamines are still in small-scale industrialized production (capacity>=10,000t/a) before 2010. However, in November 2010, Jiangxi Hurricane's 10,000 t/a ethylenediamine project is put into commercial production, which will greatly improve the situation that domestic ethylenediamine demand relies on import heavily.

China's ethylenediamines supply mainly relies on import, and the import volume has been increasing with the growth rate of 13% in recent 10 years. What's the import situation of ethylenediamines in these two years(from 2009 to 2010) and who are the main importers?

The main consumption fields of ethylenediamines in China concentrate in resin, pesticide, pharmaceutical, complexant, polyurethane foam, spandex, plastic, bleach and paint, etc, and the total consumption volume of ethylenediamines has reached about 42,600 tonnes in 2010. What kinds of ethylenediamines are consumed in these main consumption fields; what's the consumption volume and who are the main end users? This report will tell you the volume and the main end users.

Executive summary:

Despite the launched of the complete localization process of ethylenediamines production in 2010, China is still a import-dependent country in supply at present and has become one of largest consumers of ethylenediamines in the world.

In 2010, there are only one large ethylenediamines producer with the first phase capacity of XXt/a in China and XX enterprises professionally producing piperazine and triethylene diamine, which distribute in Jiangxi, Henan, Jiangsu and Hebei respectively. In addition, some of the world’s top producers, such as BASF and AkzoNobel, have built their subsidiaries in China.

In 2009, the total import volume of ethylenediamine, piperazine, triethylene diamine, triethylene tetramine and polyethyleneimine has been around XX tonnes. During Jan.–Oct. 2010, the total import volume of these 5 products has been up to about XX tonnes. Ethylenediamine has taken the leading position in import vlome, about XX tonnes in 2009 and XX tonnes during Jan.–Oct. 2010, and triethylene tetramine has followed behind it in this period, about XX tonnes in 2009 and XX tonnes during Jan.–Oct. 2010.

Despite the domestic production, most of China’s piperazine products are imported and the import volume has reached XX tonnes in 2009 and XX tonnes during Jan.–Oct. 2010. Triethylene diamine is mainly supplied by the domestic producers and the import volume has been only up to XX tonnes in 2009 and XX tonnes during Jan.–Oct. 2010.

Polyethyleneimine is generally imported with small quantities for each importer in China and its import volume has been about XX tonnes in 2009 and XX tonnes during Jan.–Oct. 2010.

The main consumption fields for ethylenediamines in China include resin, pesticide, pharmaceutical, complexant, polyurethane foam, spandex, plastic, bleach and paint, etc.. The epoxy curing agent and pesticide are two main industries consuming ethlenediamine and the consumption has reached XX tonnes in 2010 and XX tonnes in 2009 respectively. In addition, the total consumption of ethylenediamine in complexant, spandex, plastic and bleach has reached XX tonnes in 2010.

Piperazine is basically used in the production of quinolones and mainly has two product standards by concentration: XX% and XX%. The consumption of piperazine in the production of quinolones has reached more than XX tonnes in 2010.

Triethylene tetramine is mainly used in the production of polyamide resin and lubricant and the total consumption in these two fields has reahced more than XX tonnes in 2010.

As the main catalyst for the production of polyurethane foam, the consumption of triethylene diamine has been about XX tonnes in China in 2010.

Apart from paint additive, polyethyleneimine is mainly used in water treatment, paper chemicals, antiseptic andtextile in China and its consumpion in these five fields has reached about XX tonnes in 2010.

With the rapid development of downstream industries, the demand for ethylenediamines is predicted to increase rapidly and stably in the future years.
