Description:
The report is the latest one available to provide good understanding about lactic acid and to find out the situation of China’s lactic acid.
China has a long history in the production of lactic acid, and has witnessed fast development in the past few years, playing an increasingly important role in global lactic acid supply. According to the data from China's industrial biotechnology development report released in 2009, China’s lactic acid output accounts for about 30% of the global total in 2008. However, after rapid expansion, the country’s lactic acid capacity has been surplus with limited domestic demand and slowing growth in export. For the export, China had witnessed rapid growth at CAGR of 65.87% from 2003 to 2005, then the growth began to slow down, amounting to 25,000 tonnes in 2008; while the import kept increasing with CAGR of 20.24% in 2003-2008, due to China’s increasing demand for high purity lactic acid. Facing current situation, how will Chinese manufacturers adjust their strategies to cope with the intense competition?
Given China’s overall lagged technology, the quality of Chinese lactic acid is poorer than that of developed countries. The majority of Chinese lactic acid manufacturers mainly produce DL-lactic acid, only a few manufacturers can produce high quality L-lactic acid. However, lactic acid production enjoys promising market potential in China. What are the potential commercial opportunities in China's lactic acid industry?
According to CCM’s investigation, lactic acid consumption in PLA has surpassed the food and beverages industry as the leading market for lactic acid globally. However, in China, food and beverage are still the major consumption fields, which accounts for 75.28% of China’s total consumption. For the consumption in PLA, it is drawing more and more attention in China. It is predicted that PLA industrialization in China is likely to achieve a breakthrough in recent years. What are China’s PLA situation now and its development trend?
Through explorations in above key aspects, you can find the answers to the following questions in the updated report.
- What is production situation of China's lactic acid in the past few years and in 2009?
- Who are the major manufacturers and exporters of lactic acid?
- What are the price trends of China's lactic acid?
- What's the import and export situation of lactic acid?
- What are the commercial opportunities in China's lactic acid industry?
- What are the key factors influencing the development of lactic acid industry?
- What are the development trends of lactic acid in the following five years, breakdown by output and demand?
Besides, basing on the original report finished in early 2007, CCM has carried out in-depth research and analysis on each active producer, as well as the whole industry to figure out the future development trend. Aspects as follows have been updated:
- Import and export analysis in 2008
- Latest consumption situation in China
- Industry competition and structure analysis
- Latest first-hand data of each producer
For deeper research and analysis, CCM has also focused on:
- Export/Import trend
- Domestic consumption trend
- Raw material supply and price trend in the past five years
- Production situation and future development trend
With the information covered in the report, readers can see the general production and consumption situation of lactic acid in China. It is recommended that cooperating with related enterprises in China to develop high purity L-lactic acid and reduce production cost is a good way.
Executive summary:
China has a long history in lactic acid production, and started to engage in the research since 1930s. In recent five years, China has been witnessing rapid lactic acid production expansion. At present, the country has become one of the major lactic acid manufacturing countries in the world.
Most Chinese lactic acid manufacturers mainly produce DL-lactic acid, and only a few manufacturers can produce high quality L-lactic acid. With gradually increasing demand of high quality products, developing new technology or introducing advanced technology is urgently needed for domestic producers to produce high purity L-lactic acid.
In the past few years, due to intense competition, many old enterprises have stopped their lactic acid production, such as Suzhou Lactic Acid Factory, while some new players have emerged.
As of Oct. 2009, total lactic acid production capacity reaches 190,000t/a, with the output increase at CAGR of 16.19% in the past five years. However, owing to limited domestic demand and rapid expansion, the country’s lactic acid capacity has been surplus. Different from increase in capacity, operation rate of Chinese lactic acid manufacturers remains low, due to limited demand from domestic end users.
The raw material prices of corn and rice have been increasing gradually from 2006. Lactic acid average price has grown to around USD1,180/t in 2008 from USD892/t in 2006.
In recent two years, domestic price of lactic acid has kept increasing due to raw materials price rise. At present, the global price of L-lactic acid is higher than USD3,000/t.
The export tax rebate of lactic acid increased to 9% in 2009 from 5% in 2008. The aim of the report is to summarize the patterns of Chinese import and export situations, and to figure out the changes and trends of China’s lactic acid trade.
Lactic acid in China is usually consumed in such industries as food, beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics products, etc., with food and beverage as the two biggest consumption fields, accounting for 75.28% of the total. Also market value of lactic acid has grown continuously in recent five years, except in 2005 due to sharp price drop.
Driven by increasing demand both from domestic and overseas markets, China’s lactic acid output and consumption will increase in the coming years.
