Description:
China is becoming strong in the production of xylose and xylitol that needs close watch. However Chinese production is subject closely to the international demand.
It is a trend that some large manufacturers, like Futian Pharma and Zhejiang Kaihua, are dominating the Chinese production. More small producers will stop production in the future.
In respect to consumption, China is weak at the moment however it seems that China is a large reservoir to tap, especially in the field of candy, beverage, and pharmaceutical and polyether polyalcohol.
The aim of this report is to provide basic understanding to the Chinese manufacturers, production, import, consumption, etc.
Executive summary:
- Xylitol
There were once about 30 manufacturing having licensed to produce xylitol. But by 2002 there are less than 10 manufacturers who keep production.
Amongst the Chinese manufacturers the production capacity is claimed to be 19,800MT/year. And the actual production level is claimed to be 1,250MT/month.
The actual production in 2001 is estimated to be 6,800MT.
The export and import of xylitol in 2001 is calculated to be 4,521MT and 408MT, respectively. Chinese xylitol is mainly exported to Italy, South Korea, Japan, Denmark, and USA.
The domestic consumption falls mainly in food industry, medicine industry. The consumption percentage in these two areas is 60% and 30%, respectively.
It can be said that China is more strong in the production of xylose, the raw material for xylitol, than in the production of xylitol.
- Xylose
There are 11 manufacturers who claimed to keep the production of xylose.
The total production capacity is claimed to be 24,700MT/year. And the actual production level is claimed to be 1,650MT/month.
The actual production of xylose in 2001 is estimated to be 13,850MT.
The export and import quantity of xylose in 2001 is calculated to be 5,439MT and 338MT, respectively.
Apart from the export the Chinese xylose is consumed to make xylitol.
