Description:

Great environmental-protection pressure has facilitated the process of survival of the fittest up to now; it has also forced these enterprises to switch to healthier growth patterns and speed up transformation and upgrading in the era of green and sustainable development. Under the circumstances, core competitiveness for a company should include capabilities in safety production management and environmental protection in the existing quality and cost criteria. From listed enterprises' annual reports released in this period, stable production ensured profits gained in this round of boom by those who are in compliance with laws and regulations.

The leading player's revenue was more than 10 billion yuan in 2017, while the poorest performer only got less than 1 billion yuan. In terms of aftereffects of rigid environmental inspections, some could sell at high prices and raked in huge profits, yet others suffered production halt for severe pollution cases and following decreases in revenue.

Strictly executed environmental inspections have become the new normal in agrochemical market in China. To better deal with the trend, domestic pesticide manufacturers resorted to merger and reorganization. Such moves are regarded not only as an important approach to achieve transformation and upgrading, but also as a pathway to larger markets. These measures also help to expand business scale at rapid pace, extend industrial chain, lower production cost as well as break into new sectors. Against this new normal, some unqualified small- and medium-sized companies are in urgent need of capital to invest in environmental protection technologies and equipment upgrading; at the same time, some qualified large enterprises intend to scale up their production and management, and boost competitiveness through merger and acquisition (M&A), taking full advantage of their abundant capital, advanced technologies and other resources. As of Oct. 2018, several M&A cases between Chinese pesticide manufacturers took place. Such intensive M&A and reorganization will leave profound influence on China's pesticide industry structure in the future. After this round of reshuffle in the industry, who will be the next Top 20 big players surviving all the difficulties? Let us wait and see!
