Description:

Background:

L-Cysteine is a kind of nonessential amino acid which is abstracted from human hair or duck feather using hydrolysis technology. It covers three forms in China: L-cysteine hydrochloride monohydrate, L-cysteine hydrochloride anhydrous and L-cysteine base. L-Cysteine is widely used in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. Among these applications, food is the largest consumption area. The demand for it in pharmaceuticals also has a fast increase in recent years.

Industrial affairs:

The global consumption for L-cysteine was about 12,000 tonnes in 2012, and the production capacity could meet the demand well at present. China, Germany and Japan are the three largest L-cysteine producers in the world. The technology in Germany and Japan is biological method which is more eco-friendly while much higher production cost compared with China’s hydrolysis method. Though L-cysteine produced in China is more competitive because of its lower price currently and China will still be the major producer in the world in the next few years, biological method will be the trend in L-cysteine’s production and the competition during China, Japan and Germany will be more intense in the future.

China’s position:

As the largest L-cysteine producer in the world, China has an important position in global market, which benefits from its relatively loose environmental requirement and ample raw materials. The production situation in China can directly affect the supply of L-cysteine and its downstream products in the world. In 2012, it produced about 7,700 tonnes of L-cysteine and about 85% of them were exported to Southeast Asia, the US, Europe, etc.

Purpose of report:

To clearly describe the market of L-cysteine in China and give some constructive opinions, CCM has collected lots of information in various ways. In this report, both the supply & demand situations have been described in detail, and other information, such as price, technology, has also been given together with their prediction.

Forecast on industry:

The market of L-cysteine in China won’t change much in the next few years, either in top producers or production scale, while the demand for it will keep increasing for its expanding application, especially in pharmaceutical industry. The price of L-cysteine has always been in volatility historically. Since the end of 2011, the average annual price of L-cysteine had kept declining and hit a historic low in 2013. It has begun to rebound at the end of 2013, and will have a slight rise in 2014-2018 based on the increasing prices of raw materials and increasing demand.
