Member of MOA CPC Leading Group Bi Meijia visits Argentine Ministry of Agroindustry

Mr. Bi Meijia, Member of the CPC Leading Group and Director General of the Department of Personnel and Labor of the Ministry of Agriculture, met with Under Secretary Mr. Jesus Silveyra and ?National Director for International Agri-Food Negotiations Mr. Oma Odarda of the Ministry of Agroindustry of Argentina and exchanged views on promoting China-Argentina agricultural cooperation in Buenos Aires on 1 March 2017.

 

Mr. Bi made positive comments on the achievements of bilateral agricultural cooperation since the signing of the Joint Action Plan on Comprehensively Deepening Agricultural Cooperation between China and Argentina. He noted that bilateral cooperation in different areas have been advancing in an orderly manner, featured by frequent exchange of visits of high-level officials and other personnel, constantly improved mechanism of agricultural cooperation and steady development of agricultural trade and investment.

 

To further agricultural cooperation, Mr. Bi put forward three proposals as follows:

 

1. Improving mechanisms of multilateral and bilateral agricultural cooperation. The two sides should hold the Third Meeting of the China-Argentina Joint Committee on Agriculture and related meetings of working groups on biotechnology and animal health in due time, to enrich existing agricultural cooperation;

 

2. Strengthening cooperation on agricultural research and development. Agricultural research institutes and businesses from both countries are encouraged to deepen cooperation and carry out joint researches on high and key technologies of agricultural production to enhance the innovative capability of agricultural science and technology;

 

3. Expanding bilateral cooperation on agricultural trade and investment. Efforts should be made to build cooperation platforms for agricultural production, processing, investment and development, enhance the influence and recognition of agricultural products in each other's markets, and promote the connection of agricultural sectors and businesses for win-win outcome.

 

The Argentine side fully agreed with Mr. Bi and expressed its willingness to facilitate the establishment of working mechanisms between the two ministries. Argentina suggested holding the biotechnology working group meeting in March 2017 and the veterinary working group meeting at a suitable time. Argentina is looking forward to conducting exchanges and cooperation on agricultural science and technology with China by promoting agricultural research institutes from both sides to establish experience-sharing mechanisms. Argentina will also facilitate agricultural investment and strengthen pragmatic cooperation with China on agricultural infrastructure and logistics.
