Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met with Dr. Barbara Wells, Director General of the International Potato Center (CIP), who was in China for the 5th Global Forum of Leaders for Agricultural Science and Technology (GLAST 2016) in Lingshui, Hainan Province, on Dec. 13, 2016.

 

Vice Minister Qu noted that MOA has maintained sound cooperative relations with CIP. It highly values and supports the establishment of the CIP-China Center for Asia Pacific (CCCAP), and is actively coordinating with relevant departments for the implementation of the Host Country Agreement. With the upcoming signing of the Supplementary Agreement and the completion of the R&D campus in Yanqing, Beijing, the implementation of CCCAP R&D plan for China and the Asia Pacific Region will become the primary focus. CIP is expected to increase its investment in CCCAP to attract more international research talents,and carry out more research projects in collaboration with Chinese research institutes, leveraging each other's strengths, in order that CCCAP can play its due role in promoting the R&D of tuber crops and the development of the industry in the Asia Pacific region.

 

Dr. Barbara Wells welcomed and congratulated Vice Minister Qu on his election as the Board Member of CIP. She agreed with Vice Minister Qu on the progress of CCCAP and expressed her willingness to work with the Chinese government for greater achievements of CCCAP.
