Vice Minister Chen Xiaohua attended the 2nd World Grain Forum in Sochi, Russia on Nov. 18-19, 2016.

The Forum has brought together over 2000 delegates from more than 50 countries and international organizations, including officials, scholars and business representatives. In-depth discussions were carried out, mainly focusing on global food security in the context of limited land and water resources, declining soil fertility and climate change.

Vice Minister Chen noted that, in recent years, agricultural development has turned better globally, and the food supply-demand imbalance has been eased somewhat. However, this favorable situation hasn't been firmly anchored, and we are still facing the arduous task of securing global food security. To this end, Vice Minister Chen made the following suggestions: (1)Increasing agricultural investment to improve food security; (2)Accelerating innovation in concepts, mechanisms and technology to improve the sustainable agricultural development; (3) Expanding agricultural investment and trade and leveraging market to secure food security.

At the Forum, Vice Minister Chen also advocated China's vision of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, and reaffirmed that the Chinese Government will, as always, maintain a positive and cooperative attitude to work with all parties to contribute to global food security and sustainable agriculture development within its capacity.

During his stay in Russia, Vice Minister Chen had a work meeting with his Russian counterpart and learnt about the latest agricultural development in Russia.
