The Workshop on Agro-Food Global Value Chains and Farm Policy was held in Beijing on Oct. 27, 2016. Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attended the Workshop and delivered a keynote speech.

Vice Minister Qu noted that China has increasingly participated in the agro-food global value chain, with favorable conditions to leverage international market to adjust the supply-and-demand relationship and capitalize on its comparative advantages. New technologies, represented by the Internet, have injected vitality into the development of global agricultural value chains.

China will increase its participation in the global value chains through deepening agricultural and rural reform, sharpening agricultural competitiveness and enhancing agricultural opening-up.

The Workshop was jointly organized by the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center of MOA (ATPC), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD).

The participants included representatives of OECD, ICTSD, the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG-AGRI) of the European Union, MOA and the Development Research Center of the State Council of China, China Agricultural University and Renmin University of China. They discussed and exchanged views on agro-food global value chains and agricultural policy reform.
