Vice Minister Chen Xiaohua met with Mr. William Cohen, Chairman of the Cohen Group and former US Secretary of Defense, in Beijing on Nov. 10, 2016. They exchanged views on strengthening agricultural cooperation between China and the US.
Vice Minister Chen noted that in recent years, great achievements have been made in the China-US agricultural cooperation with a constantly improving cooperation mechanism, fruitful S&T cooperation outcomes and steady growth of agricultural trade. Vice Minister Chen expressed his appreciations for Mr. Cohen's long-term support to the bilateral agricultural cooperation. China and the US are highly complementary in market, technology and production capacity in the agricultural sector. The two sides have broad prospects for closer strategic cooperation. Vice minister Chen expected Mr. Cohen to continue facilitating the cooperation and exchanges between the governments and enterprises, adding positive energy to the overall bilateral relations.
Mr. Cohen responded that trade and investment cooperation could help address differences and build consensus. Agricultural trade and investment is so important that he visits China every year to be engaged with Chinese government and business sector to promote the US businesses in China and also provide guidance for the development of Chinese companies in the US. The Cohen Group will remain committed to pushing forward the sound and steady development of the agricultural trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
