5th Meeting of China-New Zealand Joint Committee on Agriculture held in Beijing

Vice Minister Qu Dongyu and Mr. Martyn Dunne, Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries of New Zealand,co-chaired the 5th Meeting of China-New Zealand Joint Committee on Agriculture in Beijing on Nov. 14, 2016.
 

The two sides spoke highly of the progress made in China-New Zealand agricultural cooperation and expected more fruitful results of pragmatic cooperation in the future. Following consensus was reached for further cooperation at the meeting:

 

1. The New Zealand side expressed its understanding of the upgraded technical requirements of China on the import of breeding cattle and frozen semen and embryos, and its willingness to conduct technical cooperation with China in this field.

 

2. The two sides will support the establishment of working groups between research institutions for cooperation in dairy farmer training and dairy products quality and safety, to improve the productivity in both countries.

 

3. The two sides signed the Cooperation Plan for the Control of Animal Diseases between the Ministry of Agriculture of China and the Ministry for Primary Industries of New Zealand, reaching agreement on deepening the cooperation in personnel training, technology exchanges and research.

 

To facilitate bilateral agricultural investment and trade, Vice Minister Qu made two points.

 

1. Creating favorable investment environment for the agribusinesses from both countries to facilitate investment in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

 

2. Optimizing the bilateral agro-trade structure and promote the export of China's horticultural products to New Zealand.

 

Mr. Dunne agreed with Vice Minister Qu and expressed his willingness to work with China for greater success in bilateral agricultural cooperation.
