CCM: China releases National Structure Adjustment Plan for Crop Farming (2016-2020)

  By the end of Sept. 2016, China released National Structure Adjustment Plan for Crop Farming (2016-2020). Main crops adjusted according to the planning are grain, cotton, oil crops, sugar crops, vegetables and forage crops. The planning period is 2016–2020. The objective of planting structure adjustment is mainly "two guarantees, three stabilities, and two coordinations".

  "Two guarantees" are to guarantee rations and to guarantee grain. By 2020, the grain area will be stable around 110 million ha (1.65 billion mu). Specifically, the area of rice and wheat ration varieties will stabilise round 53.33 million ha (800 million mu), and the area of grain will stabilise round 93.33 million ha (1.40 billion mu).

   

  "Three stabilities" are to stabilise self-sufficient levels of cotton, edible vegetable oil and sugar. By 2020, the areas of cotton, oil crops and sugar crops are strived to be stable round 3.33 million ha (50 million mu), 13.33 million ha (200 million mu) and 1.60 million ha (24 million mu) respectively.

   

  

  

  "Two coordinations" are coordinated development between vegetable production and demand, and coordinated development between forage production and animal husbandry. By 2020, the area of vegetables will be stable around 21.33 million ha (320 million mu). The area of forage will reach 6.33 million ha (95 million mu).
