CCM: Ten major corn varieties promoted in northern China in 2016

   1. Deyu919 is well planted in the mid-late-maturing corn areas in Jilin Province. It is cultivated and developed by Jilin Defeng Seeds Co., Ltd. and was approved by Jilin Province in 2014.

  Generally speaking, Deyu919 is suitable to be planted in the mid-late-maturing corn areas in Northeast China. In 2015, it was listed as one of the corn varieties promoted by the MOA and it is still on the list this year. 

  
2. Nonghua101 is suitable to be sowed in spring in Beijing, Tianjin, the north of Hebei Province, the mid-late-maturing corn area of Shanxi Province, the late-maturing corn area of Jilin Province, the Chifeng area in Inner Mongolia, Yan'an City in Shaanxi Province, and planted in summer in Shandong Province, Henan Province with Zhumadian City excluded, the south-central part of Hebei Province, Guanzhong irrigation area in Shaanxi Province, the north of Anhui Province and the Chengyun area in Shanxi Province.

  This variety is cultivated and developed by Beijing Jinse Nonghua Seed Industry Science Technology Co., Ltd. and gained national approval in 2012. In general, Nonghua101 suits to be planted in the mid-late-maturing corn areas in Northeast China and North China. In 2015, it was numbered as a recommended corn variety by the MOA and it still keep itself in the list this year. 

  
3. Jingke968 suits to be planted in Beijing, Tianjin, the mid-late-maturing corn area in Shanxi Province, Chifeng City and Liaotong City in Inner Mongolia, the mid-late-maturing corn area (without including Dandong City) in Liaoning Province, the mid-late-maturing corn area in Jilin Province, Yan'an City in Shaanxi Province and the spring-sowing area in Hebei Province.

  It was cultivated by the Corn Research Center, Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Science and was developed by Beijing Tunyu Seeds Co., Ltd. Jingke968 was nationally approved in 2011. It suits to be planted in the mid-late-maturing corn areas in Northeast China and North China. In 2015, it was included in the list of recommended corn varieties by the MOA and it still stays listed this year. 

  4. Demeiya1 grows well in the upper limit of the third accumulated temperature zone and the lower limit of the fourth accumulated temperature zone in Heilongjiang Province, the areas in Inner Mongolia with active accumulated temperature more than 2200℃ and the early-maturing area of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province.

  This variety was introduced from KWS SAAT AG by Beidahuang Kenfeng Seed Co., Ltd. and was separately approved by Heilongjiang Province in 2014, Jilin Province and Inner Mongolia in 2012, and Hebei Province in 2014. Overall, Demeiya1 is well planted in the earliest-maturing area of Northeast China. In 2015, it was selected as a recommended corn variety by the MOA and it is still on the list this year. 

  
5. KWS2564 is well developed in the planting area of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, where SC704 was ever planted, the areas in Gansu Province without the occurrence of corn dwarf mosaic disease and heat smut, such as Jiuquan, Lanzhou, Wuwei and Pingliang cities.

  It is also well mono-cultured in the middle arid zone of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, where the active accumulated temperature is 2650℃. KWS2564 was introduced from KWS SAAT AG by Xinjiang Huaxi Seeds Co., Ltd. and was approved by Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2005, by Liaoning Province and Gansu Province in 2012, and by Inner Mongolia in 2014.

   Generally speaking, KWS2564 develops well in the corn areas of Northwest China. In 2015, it was selected as a recommended corn variety by the MOA and it is still listed this year. 

  
6. Dongdan6531 suits to be planted in the corn area of Liaoning Province with active accumulated temperature more than 2800℃. It was cultivated and developed by Liaoning Dongya Seeds Co., Ltd. and went through the approval of Liaoning Province in 2013. In 2015, Dongdan 6531 was listed as a recommended corn variety by the MOA and it is still on the list this year. 

  
7. Xiangyu998 suits to be planted in the mid-late-maturing areas of Jilin Province. It was developed by Jilin Hongxiang Agricultural Group Hongxiang Seeds Co., Ltd. and got approved in Jilin Province and Inner Mongolia. This variety is recommended by the MOA as one of major corn varieties in 2016. 

  8. Henan Silage Corn 23, as a special silage corn variety, is well developed in Beijing, Tianjin, the north of Hebei Province (with Zhangjiakou excluded), the east of Liaoning Province, the south-central part of Jilin Province, and the spring-sowing areas in the first accumulated temperature belt of Heilongjiang Province.

  It is notable that this variety is prone to lodging and getting head smut, so prevention and control should be made. Henan Silage Corn 23 is first recommended as a major variety by the MOA in 2016. And it was cultivated and developed by Henan Dajingjiu Seed Co., Ltd. (Henan Dajingjiu) and was approved nationally in 2008.

  Henan Dajingjiu is generally recognized in the industry as China's biggest enterprises specializing in silage corn seeds. Nevertheless, there have been more and more seed companies striving to march in this market as the silage corn is in rapid development. It is believed that the competition in the market for silage corn certainly will be intensified in the future.

  
9. Suiyu23 is appropriately planted in the second accumulated temperature belt in Heilongjiang Province. It takes the place of Jidan27 and is recommended by the MOA as a major variety in the early-maturing areas of Northeast China in 2016. Suiyu23 was cultivated by Suihua Branch of Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences and developed by Heilongjiang Longke Seeds Co., Ltd. It was approved by Heilongjiang Province in 2011. 

  
10. Huanong887 is properly seeded in spring in the mountainous areas of eastern Liaoning Province, the mid-maturing areas of Jilin Province, the first accumulated temperature belt in Heilongjiang Province and the mid-maturing areas of eastern Inner Mongolia.

  It replaces Xingken3 to be a recommended corn variety in the mid-maturing areas of Northeast China by the MOA in 2016. Huanong887 was cultivated and developed by Beijing Huanong Weiye Seed Science & Technology Co., Ltd. and got national approval in 2014.
