International Indonesia Seafood & Meat Exhibition held for 2nd year

After a successful debut in 2014, the International Indonesia Seafood & Meat (IISM) exhibition which focuses on the latest technology in cold chain systems held its second edition October 15-17 at Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran.

This event was once again brought by PT Pelita Promo Internusa (PPI) in cooperation with the Indonesian Cold Chain Association (ARPI) as well as the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia.

IISM this year was held concurrently with the International Farming Technology (IFT) 2015.

There was a 60% increase in total exhibitors compared to last year, representing more than 150 global brands from 13 countries such as Australia, Belgium, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. There were about 5,000 local and foreign visitors, including importers, exporters, traders, vendors, transportation and storage companies, and farmer unions.

IISM showcased the latest technology, equipment, machinery and solutions for production enhancements, and technological innovations in product handling, storage and distribution. Overseas exhibitors included Aspiraal Pte Ltd, GSG International GmbH, Dalian Bingshan Engineering & Trading Co., Ltd, and Huludao Chunhe Food Co Ltd.

According to Global Cold Chain Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2020, the global cold chain market is expected to grow at a CAGR of over 11% in 2015 to 2020. While North America still holds the largest share of about 40% of the cold chain market, Asia Pacific leads as the fastest-growing market due to increasing perishable food consumption and changing consumer and retail trends due to better socio-economic conditions.

In addition, with the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) taking shape over the next few years, opportunities are abundant in Indonesia with the opening up of its market and the fluid movement of goods ahead of other emerging markets, given the country''s huge area, extensive inter-island trade and vast distances needed to reach end markets.

Sofianto Widjaja, managing director of PPI, emphasises the importance for Indonesian companies to expand their business strategies while also building higher competencies, in line with the nation''s socio-economic development. "Rapid developments in the national transportation system along with major industrial projects like cold storage in several provinces will help encourage the growth in import and export activities of the domestic food chain industry."

Explaining further, Mr. Widjaja said: "Implementation of appropriate technologies ensures sustainable availability of products whilst preserving the high quality desired by end users. With this efficient suppliers will grow in their demand, and reliability and safety standards, paving further expansion into untapped local or overseas markets."

Seminars such as "Removal of Ozone-depleting Substances in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning", "Beef and Dairy Meat Technologies" and "Training of Green Chiller Design for Fishery Product" were also held at the exhibition, providing a platform for visitors to engage with business partners and gain insights from market and technical experts.
