Chinese central government allocates RMB1.2 billion to support livestock breeding

To aid and improve the current standards of livestock breeding and promote healthy growth in the livestock industry, the Chinese central government is setting aside a total subsidy sum of RMB1.2 billion (US$193 million) to encourage farmers to invest in breeding higher quality livestock.

The subsidy mainly covers the artificial insemination of swine, dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep and yaks. This year, a new subsidy for dairy cattle embryos is also being introduced.

The central government has begun implementing livestock breeding subsidies in 2006, as of 2015, it has given out a total of RMB8.95 billion (US$1.44 billion) in subsidies. This has greatly mobilised the majority of farming households to use improved breeds which in turn helps to accelerate the popularisation of livestock breeding and improve the quality and production of livestock products in China.
