China’s coking coal imports slumped 68% year on year and dropped 49.9% from April to 1.88 million tonnes in May – the third consecutive year-on-year drop, showed the latest data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC).Imports from top supplier Australia dropped 67.2% from the previous year and down 42.6% from a month ago to 0.97 million tonnes in May.Coking coal imports from Mongolia – China’s second largest supplier – fell 59.5% on month and down 66.5% on year to 0.53 million tonnes during the same month.Canada exported 0.08 million tonnes of coking coal to China in May, plummeting 81.4% on month and down 80.5% on year.Imports from Russia reached 0.27 million tonnes in May, down 48.1% from a year ago but rose 17.4% from the previous month.Over January-May, China’s coking coal imports fell 34.6% on year to 16.56 million tonnes.Top supplier Australia exported a total 8.01 million tonnes of coking coal to China during the same period, down 36.2% year on year.
