MOA Chief Agronomist Sun Zhonghua met with Mr. Remigio Ceballo, Vice Minister of the People's Power for Defense of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in Beijing on May 14, 2015. The two sides exchanged views on further promoting the bilateral agricultural cooperation.

Sun said that the friendly relationship between China and Venezuela has a long history. During Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Venezuela in late July, the two countries decided to lift the bilateral relations to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership. Sun emphasized that the bilateral agricultural cooperation is an important part of the economic and trade cooperation between China and Venezuela and both sides attach great importance to it. China is willing to work with Venezuela to actively promote the pragmatic agricultural cooperation.

Sun put forward a 3-point proposal: first, continue giving full play to the subcommission of the China-Venezuela High-level Joint Commission and provide guidance on the implementation of joint agricultural projects; second, strengthen agricultural S&T exchanges and communication and jointly improve agricultural production; and third, promote the implementation of joint agricultural projects that respond to the needs of Venezuela.

Mr. Ceballo agreed with Sun on his proposal. Mr. Sahuayo also expressed Venezuela's hope to conduct cooperation with China on such areas as livestock and poultry farming, crop production, water-saving irrigation, protected agriculture and capacity building in a bid to help Venezuela improve agricultural development and ensure supply of agricultural products.
