China Society of Plant Protection organized an expert panel to review the results of ICAMA's Project of Study and Application of Residue MRLs for Paddy Rice and Tea Leaves on June 1st.

The expert panel was composed of experts from seven institutes, namely National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center of MOA, Science and Technology Development Center of MOA, Institute of Plant Protection of CAAS, Institute of Vegetables and Flowers of CAAS, Institute of Food Safety of Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, Institute of Control of Agro-chemicals of Beijing, China Crop Protection Industry Association.

Sui Pengfei, Director-General of ICAMA, and Ye Jiming, Deputy Director-General of ICAMA, also attended the Review Meeting.

Representatives from the Residue Control Division of ICAMA briefed the panel on the background, major activities, the result and its application as well as its social and economic benefits. The experts reviewed the final report, technical report and verifying evidence, and questioned and discussed on several technical points.

The expert panel appreciated the project result for its innovation, synthesis and practicality, particularly when the project established the principle, specifications and evaluation method for MRLs which are fully in line with CODEX practices. The project amended 141 MRLs for paddy rice and 26 MRLs for tea leaves, and accomplished a complete set of MRLs for paddy rice and tea leaves, which is of great significance to the setting of MRLs in China and international integration of China's national MRLs. The experts also stressed that six international MRLs set by the Project team is a major breakthrough of China in CODEX standard-setting, which would have profound impact to China's international agricultural trade.

DG Sui welcomed the appreciations and suggestions of the panel experts, and expressed his determination to better the publicity of the project result, encourage its application and make full use for promoting MRL-setting in China.  (Source: Residue Control Division, ICAMA)
