Expert Workshop on Registration of Microbial Pesticides held in Beijing

Expert Workshop on Registration of Microbial Pesticides was held by ICAMA in Beijing on July 9th, 2013. Liu Jiemin and Ye Jimin, DDGs of ICAMA, and Li Wenxing, Division Director of Department of Crop Production of MOA attended and addressed the Workshop.

Liu Jiemin stressed that in recent years bio-pesticides enjoyed wide attention from producers, distributors and manufacturers, therefore, it is essential to strengthen bio-pesticide registration. In the new context, policy makers should further shift management approaches and thinking, and promote bio-pesticide development on the basis of scientific evidence and safety management.

At the Workshop, experts read the data requirements for microbial pesticide registration one article after another, and made comments on possible revisions. They also had discussions on the tough questions, such as the definitions of microbial pesticides, control of antibiotic pesticides, etc.

In his speech, Li Wenxing stated that the revised Data requirements for Pesticide Registration is still a draft welcoming further comments. Experts support and comments would definitely improve the efficiency of pesticide registration in China.

Yang Jun, Division Director of Pesticide Review of ICAMA chaired the Workshop. Over 30 participants attended it, representing Crop Protection Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China Center of Disease Control, Bio-engineering College of Chongqing University, selective pesticide manufacturing enterprises and so on.
