Four Asian livestock leaders named industry personalities at VIV Asia 2015
   
   
   
   


VIV Asia 2015 cited four livestock industry leaders in the region as Asia Industry Personalities. They are: Don P. Utoyo (second from left) as "Asian Poultry Personality," Chris Jackson (third from left) as "Asian Pig Industry Personality," Bahadur Ali (fourth from left) as "Asian Poultry Breeding Personality," and Sybren Attema (fifth from left) as "Asian Dairy Personality." Four new Asian personalities were honoured as VIV Asia 2015 opened on March 11 at the Bangkok International Trade Exhibition Centre in Bangna, Bangkok, Thailand.

   


Ruwan Berculo, VIV Asia Project Manager, and Nigel Horrox, managing director of Positive Action Publications, presented the awards to four industry leaders for their "significant contributions to the healthy growth" of the feed and livestock sectors.

   


These awards go to an individual who has given great service to his sector "over and above the call of duty."

   


Mr. Berculo said this was the fifth time VIV Asia, which organisers now start to dub "the World Expo for animal husbandry and processing," picked four of Asia''s leading industry lights at the start of the biannual trade show.

   


The exhibition, which runs from March 11 to 13, was formally opened by Thailand''s agriculture and cooperatives minister, Mr. Petipong Pungbun Na Ayudhya. Mr. Petipong said more than THB2.2 billion (US$67 million) worth of deals is expected during the three day event in which more than 30 million people from 50 countries are expected to visit.

   


The four industry personalities cited during the opening of the trade event were: Bahadur Ali of India for "Asian Poultry Breeding Personality Award," Chris Jackson of the United Kingdom for "Asian Pig Industry Personality Award," Don P. Utoyo of Indonesia for "Asian Poultry Personality Award," and Sybren Attema of FrieslandCampina Vietnam for "Asian Dairy Personality Award."

   


Mr. Bahadur Ali, 58, is managing director of the IB Group of Companies (Indian Agro & Food Industries Ltd. and Abis Broiler Pvt. Ltd ). According to Mr. Horrox, Mr. Ali "travelled the world to improve his poultry knowledge and he is motivated by serving his fellow humans by uplifting their work conditions and supporting the rural youth."

   


A big breeder for many years, Chris Jackson of the British Pig Association was named "Asian Poultry Breeding Personality" for his contributions in fostering closer cooperation in pig production between Asia and the UK. Mr. Jackson, according to Mr. Horrox, served as "roving ambassador" of the British pig industry to various countries in Asia.

   


President of the Federation of the Indonesian Poultry Society, Mr. Don P. Utoyo was named "Asian Poultry Personality" for his role of tirelessly coordinating his group''s many activities with various industry associations in Indonesia such as those for breeders, feed millers, broiler producers, layer producers, and processors.

   


Mr. Sybren Attema, regional dairy development manager of FrieslandCampina Vietnam, was named "Asian Dairy Personality" for helping dairy farmers in Asia improve the quality of milk, their productivity and operational management and thus protect local food production.

   


Each of the four awardees got a trophy and a citation certificate from both Mr. Berculo and Mr. Horrox. Previous Asian winners have included personalities from the breeding, veterinary, supply, media and educational fields.
