The combinations of numbers and letters that make up a variety name can bring efficiencies to your crop management decisions.Information in a Bayer CropScience Cotton Variety NameBrand IndicationThe brand indication refers to the genetics of cottonseed: FiberMax® or Stoneville®. It can be found in the first two letters of the variety, i.e. FM or ST.Variety NumberThe variety number designates the specific cotton variety. The first number is an indicator of the relative maturity: FiberMax early maturity varieties start with a 1, mid-maturity varieties start with a 2, and late maturing FiberMax varieties start with a 3. For Stoneville varieties, the first number ranges from 4 (early) to 6 (late). The second number of both FiberMax and Stoneville varieties further refines the relative maturity (0 through 9). The third and fourth numbers of the variety number are arbitrary.Trait DesignationThe trait designation is a series of letters that convey the trait technologies associated with the variety.
