Chinese farmers dump milk as demand tanks

Farmers in China's Shandong, Qinghai and Hebei provinces have been dumping milk and culling cattle to cut down feed expenses.

Some farmers even used surplus milk to feed their pigs, according to reports.

Demand for local milk has nosedived in the aftermath of tainted milk scandals. Consumers have switched to low-cost imported milk for their dairy requirements, leaving a supply glut of locally produced milk.

Currently, China is Ireland's second most important market for dairy exports.
