Farmers in China's Shandong, Qinghai and Hebei provinces have been dumping milk and culling cattle to cut down feed expenses.
Demand for local milk has nosedived in the aftermath of tainted milk scandals. Consumers have switched to low-cost imported milk for their dairy requirements, leaving a supply glut of locally produced milk.
Currently, China is Ireland's second most important market for dairy exports.
