Vice Minister Niu Dun meets Sudanese Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation

Vice Minister Niu Dun met with Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of Sudan in Beijing on Jan. 28, 2015. The two sides exchanged views on comprehensively promoting bilateral agricultural cooperation.

 

Vice Minister Niu applauded the bilateral cooperation under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), including the progress in the development of Sudan-based Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center, fielding of senior Chinese agricultural experts in Sudan and personnel training.

 

To deepen all-rounded agricultural cooperation between China and Sudan, Vice Minister Niu put forward a five-point proposal as below: first, continue increasing high-level visits to further mutual understanding and boost cooperation initiative; second, improve cooperation mechanisms and establish a Director-General level Working Group under the mechanism of Joint Executive Committee on Agriculture; third, push forward the development of China-Sudan Development Zone; fourth, further boost agricultural trade and sign an SPS agreement when appropriate; and fifth, China will encourage and support competent Chinese enterprises to invest in Sudan while the Sudanese side is expected to improve investment environment and facilitate personnel travel, import and export of goods and other services, besides providing quality farmland.

 

Minister Hamid fully agreed with Vice Minister Niu on his comments and proposal. The Sudanese side thanked China for its assistance and support to Sudan in its agricultural development and pledged to provide preferential policies and facilitation for investment of Chinese enterprises in agriculture to the best of its capability.
