Vice Minister Niu Dun meets Estonian Minister of Agriculture

Vice Minister Niu Dun met with Ivari Padar, Minister of Agriculture of Estonia in Tallinn on Jan. 20, 2015. The two sides reached consensus on strengthening bilateral agricultural exchange and cooperation.

Vice Minister Niu pointed out that China and Estonia had a solid foundation for cooperation. Presidents of the two countries reached consensus on promoting agricultural collaboration under multilateral and bilateral cooperation mechanisms. The two Ministries signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation in 2011.

To push forward practical cooperation between the two countries, the Chinese side put forward a proposal on the following aspects: firstly, actively promote the building of agricultural exchange and cooperation mechanism, hold working group meetings regularly, and use multilateral platforms to strengthen bilateral cooperation; secondly, jointly boost agricultural economic and trade cooperation, enhance agro-product promotion, build platforms for companies to hold business talks and establish partnerships, as well as send delegations to each other to participate in agricultural trade fairs; thirdly, facilitate personnel exchanges and agricultural S&T cooperation, support cooperation between research institutions of the two countries in plant genetic resource exchange, dairy product processing, organic agriculture, and so forth.

Minister Padar agreed with Vice Minister Niu's proposals and showed the willingness of the Estonian side to promote practical cooperation along with the Chinese side. After the meeting, the two sides signed the Action Plan on Cooperation in the Field of Agriculture between the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Estonia(2015-2016).

After the meeting, Vice Minister Niu Dun attended the press conference held by the Estonian side and took up questions of the correspondents.
