(2011-3-29) In 2009, China banned the production of glyphosate 10% SL, which is directly made from glyphosate mother liquid and produces lots of waste gas, waste water and industrial residue. Since then, the treatment technology of glyphosate mother liquid has become the emergent task and hot topics for glyphosate manufacturers because there is bright future for glyphosate. However, with increasing awareness of environment and increasing need for healthy nature food, there will be more strict regulation and limits on glyphosate if it continues to cause so much waste.

This Glyphosate China Monthly Report in March 2011 briefly reviews glyphosate mother liquid treatment technology in glycine route by comparison of the new ways and the traditional ways, and presented the five steps of main processes of membrane technology in detail.

Generally, it is more difficult to treat waste water in glyphosate production by adopting glycine route than that by adopting IDA route, as the unwanted substances (or impurities) in mother liquid of glycine glyphosate is more complicated than that in IDA route's mother liquid.

With the ban of glyphosate 10% SL, many companies have tried their best to develop economic methods to treat glyphosate mother liquid. As a popular technology used in IDA route glyphosate mother liquid treatment, membrane separation technology has been introduced to treat glycine route's mother liquid. And it was reported to be adopted by some manufacturers, such as Hangzhou Tianchuang Waterpure Equipment Co., Ltd., Fuhua Tongda Agro-Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Jinfanda Biochemical Co., Ltd.

Just after the issue of the newsletter in CCPS (China Crop Protection Summit) 2011, organized by CCM in Shanghai on 18-19, March 2011, sales manager of Hangzhou Tianchuang Waterpure Equipment Co., Ltd., Xiangdong Wu gave his presentation on Clean Production and Water Recycling in Agrochemical Industry, which attracted the interest of experts and managers from world famous industry producers. He highlighted the advantages of membrane separation technology: simple operation management, small area covered, less device invested, convenient maintenance, low energy consumption and high efficiency.
