Agriculture Canada estimates grain production at 95.5 million tonnes in 2013, up from 75.4 million tonnes in 2012 brought about by ideal summer weather which has helped Canadian producers grow a record amount of wheat and rapeseed this year.
The bumper crop has caused delays in shipping the grain to markets. Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says deliveries are ahead of last year's pace, but the grain glut is causing what he calls "unique challenges.
Ritz, however, said that the federal government is working with rail and shipping companies to help make the graintransportation system more efficient.
