Brazil's milk prices rise amid smaller production in May
According to CEPEA data, average milk prices paid to producers (including freight and taxes) rose to BRL1.1046 (US$0.48) per litre in May , an increase of 1.92% compared to April and 5.9% on-year.
Typical in the off-season period, the price increase is due to the smaller milk production. The trend might not continue in the upcoming months, according to players surveyed by CEPEA.
The survey also cited some companies and cooperatives as saying the demand for the raw material is falling in many states, due to the high prices of by-products in both the wholesale and retail markets.
