Ukraine ships first batch of barley to China
The State Food and GrainCorporation of Ukraine confirmed on February 28 that it shipped the first batch of Ukrainian barleyto China.
Robert Brovdi, first deputy chairman of the state corporation, noted the significance of the shipment, which marked the first cargo of barley export to the Chinese market in the Ukrainian history.
"It is an initial batch of 1,500 tonnes, which is expected to undergo extremely demanding quality and conformity tests. After that, we will ship out the full batches of this crop," said Brovdi.
In December 2013, Ukraine signed the phytosanitary protocols with China, paving the way for the export of soybeans and barley to the Chinese market.
