China's faces slower feed output growth in 2009

China's feed production growth is likely to slow down this year with output projected to reach 140 million tonnes, according to Ji Zhihua, deputy director general of China Feed Industry Association.

That is a 2.2 percent rise but it is a significant fall from the 10.8 percent increase to 137 million tonnes in 2008.

Ji said the slower growth is due to the low margins in pork production amid the outbreak of AH1N1 flu, lingering impact of the melamine-tainted milk scandal on the dairy industry as well as the global economic downturn, which has reduced the poultry industry's feed demand.
