China's 2010 feed output to hit 156 million tonnes

China's animal feed production is likely to reach 156 million tonnes in 2010, 5% higher than the output level in 2009, the China Feed Industry Association said.

Production has risen 45% from 2005 despite a series of quality scandals that have hit the industry in recent years, the association said in a report.

China's animal feed production is likely to grow annually by 10 million tonnes over the next decade, adding to demand for corn and soymeal, the major feed ingredients.

The China National Grain and Oils Information Centre (CNGOIC) expected the industry would need 57 million tonnes of meals, mainly soymeal, next year, a rise of 14% from this year. China is already the world's largest soy importer.

The feed industry has this year imported the largest volume of corn in more than a decade amid tight domestic supplies.
