Ukraine's grain exports exceed last year

   

   

   

Ukraine's grain exports are exceeding last year's and the country is looking to diversify its sales with customers in China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, Agriculture Minister Ihor Shvayka said.

   

   

Wheatshipments were 9.3 million tonnes since July 1 to date and cornexports were 20 million tonnes over the same period, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement today. Ukraine's wheat exports are expected to climb to 9.5 million tonnes in 2013-14 from 7.19 million tonnes a year earlier and corn shipments are seen rising to 20 million tonnes from 12.7 million tonnes over the same period, according to the US Department of Agriculture. Drought curbed output in 2012-13.

   

   

Barley shipments this year to date were 2.4 million tonnes, compared with 2.1 million tonnes a year earlier to June 21, according to Agriculture Ministry data. Ukraine also wants to boost domestic demand to stabilise prices, Shvayka said.
