Vice Minister Niu Dun meets head of Agricultural Affairs Commission of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly

Vice Minister Niu Dun met with Mr. Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, head of Agricultural Affairs Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran and his delegation in Beijing on June 4th, 2014. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening China-Iran agricultural cooperation.

 

At the meeting, Niu stated that agricultural cooperation is an important component of bilateral ties between China and Iran. In the new era, China launched the initiative of building a Silk Road economic belt and a 21st-century maritime Silk Road, which will bring new opportunities to joint agricultural development of both countries.

 

Under this backdrop, Niu put forward a five-point proposal as follows:

First,the two sides will continue increasing high-level visits in agriculture and give full play to China-Iran Joint Committee on Agricultural Cooperation;

 

Second, the two sides will take specific steps for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between China and Iran on Strengthening Agricultural Cooperation, and advance bilateral cooperation in livestock, crop production, fisheries, agricultural machinery, pesticides and fertilizers; 

 

Third, the two sides will facilitate two-way agricultural investment; 

 

Fourth, the two sides will enhance capacity building and expand cooperation in human resource development; and 

 

Fifth, the two sides will promote sound and rapid development of agricultural trade between China and Iran. 

 

Nouri fully agreed on Niu''s comments and proposal. He pledged that the Iranian side will work together with China to deepen bilateral agricultural cooperation.

 

Upon the request of the Iranian side, Niu also briefed on the latest developments in China''s agriculture and rural economy.
