Vice Minister Niu Dun headed a Chinese delegation to the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Agriculture held in Moscow on Oct.9, 2014.

In his speech, Vice Minister Niu noted that, over recent years, SCO member states have had a range of fruitful cooperation activities, particularly on food security policies, agri-technology, farm machinery, trans-boundary animal disease (TAD) control and personnel training.

Niu put forward a five-point proposal to further promote pragmatic agricultural cooperation among SCO member states: (i)to implement the consensus on furthering agricultural cooperation, reached at the SCO Summit Meeting; (ii) to enhance exchange on policies concerning regional food security; (iii)to promote agricultural information-sharing among SCO member states; (iv)to intensify agricultural S&T cooperation; and (v) to encourage and support agri-businesses of SCO member states to actively engage in agricultural cooperation.

The Meeting reviewed and adopted the 2015-2016 Work Plan of Agricultural Cooperation under the SCO Inter-governmental Agricultural Cooperation Agreements. It concluded with the signing of the Minutes of the 3rd SCO Agricultural Ministerial Meeting.

Ministers of Agriculture or their representatives of six member states (Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) and four observer countries or dialogue partners (Iran, Turkey, Belarus and Sri Lanka), and the Deputy Secretary-General of SCO participated the meeting.
