Mexico’s car exports up 3.3 percent in 2012

In 2012, production in the overall Mexican vehicle industry rose 12.8 percent compared to 2011, amounting to 2,884,869 units, mainly due to the 23.6 percent year-on-year increase in light vehicle production, according to the Mexican Association of Car Distributors (AMDA).
 
Meanwhile, according to the data released by the Mexican Association of the Automobile Industry (AMIA), Mexican car and light commercial vehicle sales to the domestic market totaled 110,849 units in December last year, falling 4.2 percent year on year, while the country's domestic sales of cars and light commercial vehicles in 2012 rose nine percent year on year to 987,747 units. However, AMIA noted, domestic sales last year were 10.2 percent lower than those recorded in 2007.

In 2012, Mexican car and light commercial vehicle exports amounted to 2,355,564 units, increasing 9.9 percent compared to 2011, while its car exports in the period in question increased 3.3 percent year on year, amounting to 1,417,225 units and light commercial vehicle exports were up 21.6 percent year on year to 938,339 units.
