India, Brazil plans to cooperate in steel sector

India and Brazil are discussing to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the steel sector.

The MoU signing is scheduled for April, as the Indian relative government department indicated.

The Indian steel ministry signed the Lol with Brazil's mines and energy ministry on February 7th.

They will expand bilateral relations in the mineral sector focusing on steelmaking raw materials.

Under the agreement, the both sides will exchange the technical knowhow including for iron ore pelletization, and the technically qualified employees.

Brazilian steel mill, Gerdau, invested a 300,000 tpy integrated steelworks for specialty steel commissioned last month in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state.

Meanwhile, the Indian mills import Iron ore from Brazil a lot recent times as mining-related investigations in India have crimped ore supplies to domestic mills during the past two years. And India NMDC is applying to invest in Brazil's iron ore project and already got the agreement from the state of Bahia.
